MUNCIE, IN— Muncie Downtown Development Partnership (MDDP), an organization connecting our community and creating a vibrant downtown, will be hosting Light Up DWNTWN on First Thursday, December 5 from 5-8 p.m. with festivities continuing throughout the month. The kick-off event will feature festive performances, family activities, a Holiday Gift Market, decorated window displays, and the lighting of the animated, musical holiday tree.

For the kick-off event, local retailers will be open for holiday shopping, and a specialty Holiday Gift Market will feature local vendors selling handmade goods perfect for gift-giving at 301 S Walnut Street. Event-goers can stay warm with cups of hot chocolate and soup during the event. At Canan Commons, enjoy holiday performances from Greg Rhodes, Listen Closely A Capella, and Muncie Community School Choir. Bring the kids for a ride on the kiddie train and a visit from Santa while awaiting the countdown for the animated light and music show of the community tree at 6 p.m.

After the official tree lighting, return to Canan Commons every Thursday through Sunday in December at 6, 7, 8, and 9 p.m. for holiday music and light shows.

During the Light Up DWNTWN kick-off, downtown Muncie will be decked out for the second “DWNTWN Storefront Holiday Window Display Contest.” Community members are encouraged to vote for their favorite store displays once per day. Voting and contest rules will be available on MDDP’s Facebook page from December 6-25.
