MUNCIE, IN — Muncie Action Plan (MAP), in collaboration with Shafer Leadership Academy, Ball State University’s Bowen Center for Public Affairs, 8twelve Coalition, Ball State University’s Office of Community Engagement, and Habitat for Humanity, would like to announce the renewal of the CenterPoint Scholars Program. Thanks to a second generous grant from CenterPoint Energy, this groundbreaking initiative will continue to empower community leaders and foster meaningful change in Muncie’s vibrant neighborhoods.

The CenterPoint Scholars Program is a year-long leadership academy designed to cultivate a dedicated group of resident leaders who are passionate about improving their neighborhoods. Through a structured curriculum emphasizing listening, action, implementation, and celebration, participants gain essential skills in advocacy, engagement, and project management. By the end of 2025, the program will graduate its second cohort of ten exceptional leaders, further strengthening the foundation of community-driven growth in Muncie.

The program kicks off its 2025 session with an online application process opening in January, inviting interested participants to apply. Details will be shared via MAP’s social media channels and newsletter in addition to MuncieJournal.com. The highlight of the program’s start will be an April 2025 retreat, where the newly selected cohort will participate in hands-on learning, skill-building activities, and networking opportunities. This immersive retreat will equip them to lead with confidence in their neighborhoods.

A defining feature of the CenterPoint Scholars Program is its focus on sustainability and long-term impact. The program provides a replicable training model that ensures a steady stream of well-prepared neighborhood leaders. These leaders will be equipped to advocate for change and inspire collective action for years to come.

By fostering collaboration among leaders from diverse neighborhoods, the program amplifies community-driven advocacy and encourages the sharing of innovative ideas. This inclusive approach strengthens the bonds between neighborhoods and enhances collective efforts to address local challenges.
