SELMA, IN—They may be twins, but Wapahani High School seniors Evan and Eli Morgan aren’t carbon copies of one another. Each has his own interests, and together they have shared interests as well.
Evan has participated in cross country and track throughout his high school career. Both have been part of the school’s academic teams, were inducted into the National Honor Society last year and are members of the Riley Club.
Riley Club is a student organization at Wapahani High School that supports children at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis with various fundraisers and such.
“There are some people out there who aren’t as fortunate as me, and everybody should have a fair shot at life,” Evan said.
“People are going through things, and just a little bit goes a long way,” Eli added.
Both Morgan brothers have jobs outside of school and keep a busy schedule with their activities and academics. Eli and Evan are each ranked near the top of their class and have taken a variety of AP courses to prepare for the future.
To stay organized and keep up on their schoolwork, the brothers are careful to keep track of assignments and have different folders for different classes. Eli is more of a list-maker to stay on track while Evan writes down what happens in each class daily to keep organized.
The future looks similar for both Evan and Eli who plan to attend Ball State University next fall and major in meteorology. Meteorology has been a shared interest since they were in elementary school. Eli got into it first and then his brother followed suit.
“Even though I’m the older one, I feel like I took after him,” Evan said, noting he is older by 10 minutes.
For Eli, seeing meteorologists on television first got his attention.
“Graphs drew me in,” he said. “I’ve always been this nerdy type that likes graphics.”
The twins encourage students coming up behind them to continue pursuing their goals. Evan said facing obstacles and dealing with difficult people and classes are just part of the process, but students need to work through those challenges.
“Ultimately the end goal is at least graduating high school and just staying on track to make sure that you do so,” Evan said.
Eli added that staying busy and not falling behind is important as well.
“Just remember that it’s just a part of life and eventually you’ll be out in your career,” Eli said. “But if you take the time to do stuff while in school, it will be easier in the future.”
