Spirit of Muncie Captures Another State Fair Band Day Championship

INDIANAPOLIS—The Spirit of Muncie Band and Guard, led by John Clark, Daniel Sager and Rhonda Reynolds, captured 1st place at the Indiana State Fair Band Day Contest late Friday night. Their “Uninvited” show featured music from Alanis Morissette, Sam Smith and original music from Southside alum Sean Sumwalt.

Here are the final scores of the top five schools:

  1. Muncie -93.050
  2. Anderson – 91.488
  3. Kokomo – 91.225
  4. Richmond – 89.838
  5. Jay County – 86.788

This is Muncie Central’s fourth State Fair championship (1953, 2014, 2021, 2024) and Muncie schools’ 10th overall – Southside won in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2008.  At the State Fair’s morning show awards ceremony, Central won awards for best music, visual and general effect.

Central went undefeated this year, winning every contest they competed in at Jay County, the Spirit of Sound contest in Muncie, the Tartan Classic in Anderson and the State Fair.
