About Juneteenth: Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, bringing the news that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day, also known as “Juneteenth Independence Day,” “Freedom Day,” or “Emancipation Day,” marks a pivotal moment in American history and is a time for reflection and celebration.

About Juneteenth Muncie: The mission of the Juneteenth Muncie Committee is to promote awareness and appreciation of African American history and life to build more inclusive communities today. This year’s event is presented in partnership with the Indiana Black Expo – Muncie Chapter and Shafer Leadership Academy, the presenting sponsor.
