MUNCIE, Ind. – Ivy Tech Muncie-Henry County secured an Early Years Initiative grant which focuses on new, enhanced, or expanded programs and projects as well as projects that influence healthy brain development and the development of physical, social-emotional, and cognitive skills in infants and toddlers (birth to age 3). The Muncie-Henry County CareerLink team, in collaboration with the Early Childhood Education Department, is offering a free eight-week skills training class called “Skills for Parenting in the Early Years”.

This class will include:

  • Safe sleep
  • Pediatric first aid and CPR
  • How to select high-quality childcare
  • Mental health for baby and parents
  • Conscious discipline
  • Working through challenging behaviors such as biting and hitting with toddlers
  • Access to research-based information on raising children.

Each week families will build knowledge and skills to be able to implement safe, supportive learning and developmental outcomes for their young child at home.

Families will be provided with a hot dinner and there will be weekly giveaways such as diapers, safety kits, infant sleep sacks, toddler board books, and additional educational resources. If families complete the full eight-week skills training, they will be provided with a new infant car seat and a certified car seat installer will be on-site that day to install them in the families’ vehicles.

This eight-week skills training class is free for each family. Ivy Tech Muncie-Henry County’s first section is open to first time pregnant mothers. The class begins May 2, 2024, and will run through June 20, 2024. Register today at https://forms.gle/DvQ88rxzPMvZPpbQA.
