MUNCIE, IN—Minnetrista Museum & Gardens, in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank and Red-tail Land Conservancy, is thrilled to announce the return of the highly anticipated Seed Swap & Giveaway event, scheduled for March 16, 2024, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Seed Swap & Giveaway, currently in its 6th year, has been held at different locations annually. It remains a cornerstone of Minnetrista’s dedication to promoting community engagement, preserving biodiversity, and advocating for sustainable gardening practices.
At the heart of the event is the opportunity for attendees to exchange seeds, including a diverse selection of native flowers and vegetables, all provided free of charge while supplies last. The act of swapping seeds not only promotes genetic diversity but also strengthens the resilience of local ecosystems against environmental challenges. While bringing seeds is optional, participants are encouraged to bring their clean and labeled heirloom seeds for swapping too.
In addition to the seed exchange, attendees can immerse themselves in hands-on activities and connect with local nature and gardening organizations, further enriching their knowledge and fostering a sense of community among like-minded individuals.
“The Seed Swap & Giveaway is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of sustainability and community,” says James Edwards, Associate Director of Horticulture at Minnetrista. “We are thrilled to be working in collaboration with our partners at Second Harvest Food Band and Red-tail Land Conservancy. Together, we are embarking on a journey towards a greener, more sustainable future. We invite everyone to join us in sharing seeds, knowledge, and camaraderie as we work together towards a greener, more sustainable future.”
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just beginning your gardening journey, the 2024 Seed Swap & Giveaway promises something for everyone. Admission is free, and no prior registration is required.
The event will coincide with Minnetrista’s lndoor Farmer’s Market, held in the main building, with ample parking available in the main lot for attendees’ convenience.
Join us on March 16th as we sow the seeds of sustainability together and cultivate a greener, more vibrant community for generations to come.
