MUNCIE – Timmy Brown’s story is one of resilience and achievement.

That powerful story is told in the book “Running Against the Grain: The Story of the Philadelphia Eagle and Movie Star Timmy Brown.”

On Tuesday, April 2, co-authors Roy Weaver and Shawn Sriver, will share the remarkable life of Timmy Brown, an alum of Ball State University, during a free event from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center.

Weaver is the former dean of Teachers College at Ball State University, and Sriver is an entertainment historian and accreditation and assessment coordinator of Teachers College at Ball State.

“The E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center is the perfect venue for programs that preserve and share local history,” said Diane Watters, associate director of the center. “I admire those who research and document stories so that they can be shared with future generations.”

Timmy Brown’s journey began as a child of divorce who later finds himself at an orphanage in rural Indiana. Despite these challenges, he excelled in sports at Ball State and went on to play professional football for the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles during the 1960s. Remarkably, even more than 50 years after leaving the Eagles, he still held four team records. He concluded his football career as a Baltimore Colt in Super Bowl III.

Not only did Timmy find success on the football field, but he also pursued a career on stage as a singer and actor. His performances and recordings were well-received in the Philadelphia area, and he appeared in “Nashville” and in the film and television versions of “M*A*S*H.”

During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to hear Timmy Brown’s inspiring story, learn more about his accomplishments, and gain insight into his multifaceted career. Copies of the book “Running Against the Grain: The Story of Philadelphia Eagle and Movie Star Timmy Brown” will be available for purchase and signing. Refreshments will be served.
