MUNCIE, IN —Community members from East Central Indiana are invited to attend the annual All Aboard: Board Leadership in Action Workshop on Thursday, November 16, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Community Room at the YWCA of Central Indiana, located at 310 E. Charles Street in downtown Muncie. This free event is hosted by Shafer Leadership Academy and Nonprofit Support Network in partnership with Heart of Indiana United Way, Ball State Office of Immersive Learning, Ball State Black Faculty and Staff Association, Muncie Pride Network, and the YWCA of Central Indiana.
This three-hour workshop is designed for individuals who are interested in learning about local nonprofits and nonprofit board service. Participants will be guided through the roles and responsibilities of board service and how to find a potential nonprofit board opportunity in the Muncie and Delaware County area that suits their skills and interests. Dave Sternberg, nonprofit consultant and founder of Loring, Sternberg, and Associates, will lend his expertise to facilitate the workshop. Dinner will also be provided.
The program will feature a panel discussion of diverse nonprofit board members from the community discussing best practices of board service in relation to their real-life experiences. Panelists include Charlize Jamieson, Teresa Long, Tania Said, and Misty White. The panel will be moderated by Dr. John Anderson Jr., the inaugural Director of the Ryan Family Navigators Program at Ball State.
Diversity plays a pivotal role in effective nonprofit board leadership. The All Aboard Workshop places a strong emphasis on the need for diverse perspectives. Diverse board members contribute unique insights, innovative ideas, and a broader understanding of the region’s needs. This workshop serves as a platform to encourage inclusivity, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued in the decision-making process of local nonprofits.
New to the workshop this fall is the opportunity for individuals to network with leaders from local nonprofits. Nonprofits interested in having a booth to engage with potential new board members and offer descriptions of board opportunities currently available can complete the sign-up form on Shafer Leadership Academy’s website https://www.shaferleadership.com/all-aboard/ or by contacting admin@muncienonprofits.org.
