MUNCIE, IN—Delaware County Housing Authority (DCHA) is accepting applications for its Housing Choice Voucher Program, also known as Section 8. The program is available to families residing in Delaware County outside of the Muncie City limits. However, there are preferences for applicants whose head of household, spouse, or sole member is 62 years of age or older or disabled by HUD’s definition. The program is open to all families who meet the income eligibility requirements. To be eligible for the program, families need to provide income and family information online. Their information will be verified once their name comes to the top of the waiting list.
Applications will be accepted on April 18, 2023, starting at 8 a.m. until April 19, 2023, at 4 p.m.
The application process must be completed online at http://delawareha.housingmanager.com.
The application process is relatively straightforward, but families must be prepared to wait. The program is funded by the federal government through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Although the program is available to all eligible families, the agency may not be able to help everyone who applies at this time due to funding limitations.
Once a family submits their application, they will be placed on a waiting list, which can take up to five years. The amount of financial assistance that a family receives is based on their income, family composition, and rent. Assistance is paid directly to landlords, and the family must locate suitable housing.
Recipients of the program can receive assistance as long as they remain income-eligible and follow program rules. Assistance is automatically renewed each year. The program is federally funded through HUD, and applying does not guarantee eligibility. Assistance is offered as funds become available.
To learn more about the Housing Choice Voucher Program and DCHA, families can visit HUD.gov. It’s essential to note that this program is for families residing in Delaware County outside of the Muncie City limits. If a family wishes to live inside the city limits, they must apply with the Muncie Housing Authority, which is a separate agency. The MHA do not have any availability at this time, but they will post on their website and social media pages when they do.
