MUNCIE, IN—October 6, 2022 will feature a special edition of First Thursday.
The theme is “ArtsWalk: It’s a Three Ring Circus.”
It’s a Three Ring Circus will feature unique arts, dazzling shows, and delicious food. October ArtsWalk is sponsored by: the MuncieArts & Culture Council as well as the Ball State University College of Fine Arts.
Here’s what will be happening:
Unique Arts
Throughout the evening, art exhibitions will be taking place featuring local and visiting artisans in various media at Madjax, Gordy Fine Art & Framing, and other galleries throughout DWNTWN. YART, a yard sale for art, will also be on site with a wide variety of local makers and artisans, all with art priced under $40 at Canan Commons.
Dazzling Shows
Sponsored by the Community Foundation of Muncie & Delaware County, Mr. Daniel Sings, a children’s show, will take place at Canan Commons from 5:00 – 6:00pm.
More entertainment for the whole family you won’t want to miss will consist of Visual Vivacity & Her Variety Circus! Circus shows such as Roaming Stilt-walkers on the streets 6-7:30 pm, Partner Acro 6–6:30 pm, Balloon Art 6:40-7:30 pm, and Character Actors 6:40-7:20 pm, and a final show at 7:30-8:00 pm will take place at Canan Commons.
Chris Taylor, Certified Bob Ross Instructor, will demonstrate their techniques near the Caffeinery 5-8:00 pm.
Performances by George Wolfe & America’s Hometown Band Jazz Combo will take place next to Dave’s Alley from 6:00-7:00pm.
Additional featured performances will fill the evening such as Aerial Annex, Muncie Ballet Studio, and BSU Theater Students!

Cornerstone Center for The Arts will be presenting art by current members of the Muncie Artist’s Guild, including work by Karen Fisher.

The Fickle Peach will host a photography show by Ty Morton called “The Sky’s the Limit,” a series of aerial photography, most of which is from right here at home. It will be on display all month at the Fickle Peach.

Gordy Fine Art and Framing will host the opening party for A New Intimacy: Power of Eliminating Words from the Conversation which highlights the painted silk works of Muncie artist, Carrie Wright. An artist talk will take place at 6:15. Refreshments will be served. Works will be on sale through October 29.

To follow the theme of three ring circus, Inland Interior Design will also be celebrating its 3 year Anniversary! Find us not only in our main store location, 109 E Main Street, where we will be having a cocktail hour with live music and sales, but we will also be at the North Church Venue where we will be partaking in the One Night at Salem event. Carve pumpkins with the East Central Neighborhood Association, press your own mug in the Madjax Design Lab, and make your own mini catapult with Tom Steiner. View design projects by Ball State architecture students in the courtyard, pottery demonstrations by ClayWood Art Pottery, and the intergenerational art exhibition “Tie Dye and Boo Baubles” by Debra Gindhart Dragoo and Arie Hammond. Hear live music by KLS Digital and Lovesick Moan, and find handmade goods for sale by Beyond I CAN and our Madjax vendors. Muncie Makes Lab will be hosting a group exhibition curated by artists Grif Williams and Lexi Musselman. The show, LUMPLAND, will feature local artists and their strange and wild creations. Come by and see the freak show from 5-8 pm

First Thursday will see the release of our new Basic Indiana Map, an all-new reference map from Muncie Map Co. This map features counties, cities and towns, highway, state parks and recreation areas, and many points of interest, the Basic Indiana Map is an attractive reference suitable for home or office. We’ll also be featuring a newly restored 1854 map of Indianapolis, and all sweatshirts and hoodies are $3.50 off. Open extended hours until 8pm.

One Night in Salem: Makers Market and Eerie Fun!: Come join us at The North Church Venue on October 6th from 5-8 pm for First Thursday. We will have food, cash bar, live music, and LOTS of vendors. Tickets are $2.50 in advance or $3.50 at the door (scan to purchase), 20% of ticket sales goes to Yorktown Council for the Arts.

Open Door Health Services will offer free coloring pages and crayons, featuring health tips from Dr. Kari Kendall of Open Door Pediatrics. Free at-home COVID-19 test kits will be distributed. Activities take place 5-7 pm outside Open Door’s administrative site at 220 S. Walnut.

There will be an exhibition of work by photographer Rigel Jackson on the 3rd floor of the Patterson Building. The show is called “The Empowered Portraits Exhibition” featuring photographs of 40 women 40 and better.

YART is a Yard Sale for Art! The Fall 2022 Muncie YART will be held in conjunction with the 2022 ArtsWalk on Thursday, October 6th, from 5-8 pm. You can find YART and LIVE performances at Canan Commons, Muncie’s great urban greenspace park and amphitheater by the roundabout on South Walnut Street. YART encourages interaction between our 150 Artists and the community, hoping to make Art more accessible, especially to those who think they cannot afford to buy Art for themselves and their homes. To this goal, all YART Art will be priced below $40.00. YART works to enable local creative entrepreneurs and to improve the Muncie economy. Shop local, support independents, and enjoy your town.
