MUNCIE, IN—For 46 years, the Academy for Community Leadership has been attracting bright, emerging leaders in Muncie and Delaware County. ACL has provided an orientation to the Muncie and Delaware County community and a broad overview of civic leadership since 1979. The program helps develop leadership talent and potential and provides valuable networking opportunities for the participants. Most of our community’s current leaders in business, philanthropy, education, and government have participated in ACL.

This intensive education series meets every week for ten weeks from September to November. Sessions are co-sponsored by Ball State University’s Office of Community Engagement and the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. ACL exposes participants to local history, business, local government, health care, cultural awareness, education, leadership styles, and other topics. Additionally, participants engage in a service project with local non-profit organizations.

The goal of ACL is to identify individuals within Muncie and Delaware County who are emerging leaders and prepare them for the future leadership. Through contact with a variety of experts, the participants expand their leadership skills, knowledge, and influence in the community. It is an educational forum that includes interaction with other members of the current class, guest speakers, and panelists – those individuals who are shaping Muncie and Delaware County’s future.

“Because of the ACL, I feel I have a better understanding of Muncie, Delaware County and it’s rich culture and history. I have learned so much and would encourage anyone living in the area to participate in this program.” —Daniel Gurulé, Erskine Green Training Institute

“ACL has been one of the best experiences I have had since moving to Muncie. I am thankful for the time, dedication, and information provided by so many leaders in the community.”—Caitlin Zink, Ivy Tech Community College
