MUNCIE, Ind.— Ivy Tech Community College Muncie-Henry County adds a new track to their nursing programs. The newest track allows medical assistants with a current unencumbered CMA-AAMA certification a pathway to transition to a registered nurse.

The nursing track at Ivy Tech Community College is a limited enrollment program. Prospective students are required to have successfully completed the pre-requisite classes of Anatomy and Physiology 101, English 111, and Psychology 101 as well as completed appropriate scoring on the TEAS exam to apply. Admission is based on the TEAS score and the scores they receive in the three pre-requisite classes.

Ashley Reed, Program Chair for the New Castle Nursing Program said “Our nation is currently facing a nursing shortage crisis. Nurses are needed now more than ever. The New Castle Ivy Tech campus is excited to start offering the Medical Assistant to ASN Transitional Nursing Track in Summer of 2023. This track allows professionals already in healthcare the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have obtained toward a nursing degree. We hope that by offering this new nursing track we are working to meet a direct need of our local communities.”

Prospective students are encouraged to apply to the pre-nursing program to complete these steps prior to the application deadline. The application cycle for the summer start date is available online from December 1, 2022 through February 1, 2023. Admitted students will be able to complete this track in three semesters, graduating with an associate of science in nursing degree.
