INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Sue Errington (D-Muncie) has been recognized by the Indiana School Social Work Association (INSSWA) for her support of LGBTQ+ youth and housing stability.
Each year the INSSWA recognizes legislators for their advocacy for policies and laws that promote the ability of social workers to succeed and flourish in their work.
During the 2021 Legislative Session, Errington authored House Bill 1213, which would have banned conversion therapy for those 18 years and younger in Indiana. She also authored House Bill 1530 to establish the Indiana Housing Stability Task Force, which would have studied Indiana’s housing and eviction data and presented legislative recommendations to the General Assembly and the Governor based on its findings.
While neither bill received a hearing in their assigned committees, Errington remains undeterred in her fight to improve the lives and well-being of all Hoosiers.
“I am grateful to the INSSWA for their support and recognition of these vital causes,” Errington said.
“Stable housing and the freedom to be oneself are essential for Hoosiers to live healthy, fulfilling lives. The pandemic has put a spotlight on the areas of housing and LGBTQ+ rights in Indiana that still need improvements, including a need for more data on evictions and comprehensive hate crimes legislation. I look forward to continuing to work towards a more equitable and welcoming Indiana.”
