Intersection, Whitinger Strategic Services Merge, Join Accutech Family of Brands

MUNCIE, Ind. — Two of East Central Indiana’s premier marketing and branding agencies, Intersection and Whitinger Strategic Services, have merged, combining the talents of both teams and growing their services and portfolio.

Intersection and Whitinger were two of the most awarded agencies in the region. Intersection took home six international Hermes Creative Awards in 2021, and Whitinger stole the show at the 2020 American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) of East Central Indiana.

The merger, effective October 1, 2021, was made possible by an unlikely partner: Accutech Systems Corporation, which provides innovative trust and wealth management technology solutions. Accutech is serving as the holding company for the agency, which operates as a separate business unit of Accutech and maintains use of the Intersection brand and office space in downtown Muncie.

“There’s a ton of talent in these agencies,” said Adam Unger, owner and president of Accutech. “We simply saw an opportunity to help them put their teams together and help the community in even bigger and more impactful ways.”

Accutech’s mission is to make great things happen for other people, which aligns with the value Intersection brings to its clients and the community.

“This acquisition fits perfectly into our growth plans,” said Dan Wright, Accutech’s executive director of strategy. “Keeping creative talent in Muncie means good things for Accutech and the community.”

Unger, a Muncie native, is passionate about investing in the community. He has made it a goal to create one new business each year—including The Clubhouse, set to open in Spring 2022—with Scott Smalstig, director of community growth, heading those efforts. Smalstig brokered the deal between Intersection, Whitinger and Accutech.

“I’m thrilled to have helped bring these talents and companies together,” Smalstig said. “Both of these teams have a long history of a consultative approach, which matches our philosophy. Together, the work will only get stronger.”

In January 2022, Brandon Coppernoll was announced as the new managing director of Intersection. Coppernoll is an established digital marketing professional, having served as chief digital marketing officer for Ball State University and digital marketing manager for Accutech.

Chance Benbow and Richard Crist—previous managing partners of Intersection and Whitinger Strategic Services, respectively—are working with Smalstig and Coppernoll to encourage a smooth transition for employees and clients, as well as to continue to grow the business.
