MUNCIE, Ind. – Open Door Health Services has launched a new no-cost COVID-19 testing program in Muncie. Testing takes place drive-through style on the site of Open Door Urgent Care, located at 1651 E. 29th St. Monday, Sept. 13 marked the first day for the program, which is contracted through the Indiana Department of Health.
As a community testing site, anyone in the community is welcome to seek testing through the program.
Both rapid and PCR tests are available. PCR tests generally take 2-5 days for results.
Appointments are required and can be scheduled at www.opendoorhs.org/testing. Anyone not able to schedule online can call 211 for assistance.
Before arriving for a test, individuals must not only schedule their appointment, but also complete registration questions that are emailed or texted to them during the scheduling process.
Test results will be sent by the state to the contact info provided during scheduling.
Testing is initially offered four days a week:
- Monday, 9 a.m.-noon
- Wednesday, 9 a.m.-noon
- Thursday, 1-7 p.m.
- Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
Those arriving for testing by personal vehicle should follow signage to the east side of the Open Door Urgent Care parking lot. Individuals not arriving in a vehicle should call (765) 747-1164 once on site.
Since mid-August, Open Door has increased testing offerings for community members who are not established Open Door patients, or those who did not wish to see a provider for a test. The new program replaces those offerings and creates access to no-cost testing.
Open Door operated a similar government-contracted testing program from October 2020 through June 2021 at its downtown Muncie health center on S. Madison St. With the increased demand for testing as COVID-19 cases surge, the new program will help fill the demand and create access for community members seeking testing outside of a provider visit.
“The need for Covid testing is critical, and we are happy to work with the Indiana Department of Health to offer this service to the community, said Bryan Ayars, Open Door President and CEO. “Even more critical is the importance of individuals getting vaccinated against the Covid virus. We urge everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible.”
Provider visits at Open Door Urgent Care remain available without an appointment. Those with COVID-19 symptoms who are seeking a provider visit should call (765) 747-1164 before entering the building.
Any updates to testing offerings at Open Door will be posted at www.opendoorhs.org/testing.
