Muncie, IN—The YMCA of Muncie, in partnership with Muncie Community Schools, has been approved to receive state funding to support after school programs at East Washington Academy and Southview Elementary.
Through the 1008 Student Learning Recovery Grant Program Fund, the Y will Provide after school support at no cost to the families in two elementary schools. After school support is essential to getting students back on track and reducing learning loss. The Y will provide support to students in literacy, numeracy, character development and college readiness through proven curriculum and programs.
“There is a growing need for after school care for a lot of our families that isn’t being met right now. This grant will allow us to expand the successful program we have in place at Grissom Elementary which provides extended learning and extend it to South View and East Washington Academy (EWA), so we’re excited about the opportunity to better serve the community with the YMCA’s assistance.” Says Dr. Lee Ann Kwiatkowski, Muncie Community Schools Director of Public Education and CEO.
Chad Zaucha, YMCA of Muncie CEO, had this to say about the after school opportunity, “These funds will certainly aid our ability to bridge the learning gap by engaging students and families in high quality before and after school programs. We are more than excited to build upon the Y’s youth development efforts in partnership with MCS. Together, we will enhance education attainment levels for all children in our care.”
