Muncie, IN—Mitch Isaacs, Executive Director for Shafer Leadership Academy, was recently installed as the President of Indiana Leadership Association (ILA). ILA facilitates best practices of leadership in and for the good of Indiana communities. ILA is made up of individual members and organizational members.
According to Isaacs, “ILA connects our members through regional events and an annual statewide conference. Most counties in the state have some type of leadership academy. ILA’s job is to provide information, partnership, networking, consulting, training, and facilitation to promote these collaborative values and practices throughout the state. Essentially, we’re a professional association.”
ILA’s key events include a Best Practices Roundtable, usually held in the spring, and the Annual Meeting and Retreat held in late summer. The Best Practices Roundtable is a one-day drive in event. The Annual Meeting and Retreat spans two days. Muncie hosted the Best Practices Roundtable this February and Isaacs is optimistic that Muncie will serve as the annual retreat location in August of 2021. For the last two years the ILA President has “hosted” the Annual Meeting and Retreat. “I am hopeful we can bring the event to Muncie in August,” Isaacs offered, “provided the pandemic has subsided by then.”
Isaacs’ plans go beyond hosting the Annual Retreat. “I think ILA is poised to help leadership academies across the state evolve. For the last few years, we have helped members think differently about programs and fundraising. Now we can help them incorporate virtual opportunities in their programming. We’ve already started providing some development on this topic and I look for us to provide more in the coming months.”
This is Isaacs’ third year on the board of directors, last year he served as board vice president, and previously board secretary. Past President, Lynn Ringis, had this to say about Isaacs: “Mitch has a work ethic like very few people I know. He’s a ‘get it done’ kind of guy and I am confident that the ILA is in great hands!”
