Muncie, IN—The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. awarded $87,746 to 9 non-profit organizations during the third Quarterly Competitive Grant cycle of 2020.
The Community Foundation’s purpose is to improve the quality of life in Muncie and Delaware County for this generation and generations to come. Quarterly Competitive Grants are awarded to fund projects for which there is a demonstrable community benefit in one of the following areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, economic development, education, and community betterment.
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses, and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies. To date, more than $54 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
Beneficence Family Scholars received $6,000 (from the Stefan and Joan Anderson Unrestricted Fund, Patrick and Marilyn Cleary Fund, KAKATU Foundation/David and Joanna Meeks Fund, Michael O. and Nicole T. Lunsford Fund, and Faye Wingate Fund) to support a program expansion that provides residential options for single parent households working toward post-secondary education attainment.
College Mentors for Kids, Inc. received $10,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, 5000th Charitable Fund, Inc. Fund, Gary Addison Fund, Laura Stanley Keppler Fund, Francis Lafferty Fund, Jeff and Beth Lang Fund, and Ontario Systems—Wil Davis and Ron Fauquher Fund) to provide mentoring opportunities by matching elementary-aged children from across Muncie and Delaware County with Ball State University student volunteers. This program may utilize virtual or a hybrid model this year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Destiny Christian Center International, Inc. received $15,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, Bassett Family Fund, Pat and Jane Botts Fund, Mike and Cathy Galliher Fund, John and Katherine Littler Fund, and MutualBank Charitable Foundation Fund) for facility updates and improvements including replacing childcare room furnishings, repairing damaged windows, interior wall repair and painting, and installing playground equipment at the newly acquired Destiny Christian Academy-Central Childcare Center.
East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra received $4,000 (from the Jane Harrell Buckles Fund, Shafer/Muncie Power Products Legacy Fund, and Charles and Claudia Sursa Unrestricted Named Endowment Fund) for the 2020-2021 season, including community concerts and scholarships to student participants. Rehearsals and concerts will be modified to protect and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Masterworks Chorale, Inc. received $6,900 (from The Endowment for the Arts Fund, Daniel, Catharine Stewart Fund, Wayne E. and Carolyn K. Thomas Fund, and Faye Wingate Fund) for the “Brigadoon in Concert” performance for school children and other outreach and educational programming.
Muncie Action Plan received $11,096 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, Gordon and Pam Cox Fund, John and Janice Fisher Quality of Place Endowment Fund, Jim and Mary Rosema Fund, and Joseph and Janet Wilson Unrestricted Endowment Fund) to provide organizational capacity support including the Neighborhood Coordinator position.
Muncie Land Bank received $10,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation and the Ball Corporation Community Betterment Fund and Jeanne and John Smith Fund) to acquire and maintain vacant, abandoned, and blighted properties in the City of Muncie for public and private development.
Whitely Community Council received $10,750 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, Jeanne and John Smith Unrestricted Fund, and Gary and Amy Thomas Fund) to support general operations.
Youth Opportunity Center, Inc. received $14,000 (from the Gordon and Pam Cox Fund, KAKATU Foundation/David and Joanna Meeks Fund, Julian and Suzanne Gresham Fund, and Jane E. Hughes Fund ) to create additional outdoor meeting spaces to allow for maintaining social distancing between youth and family programming.
