Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship For HS Seniors Application Now Available

Muncie, IN—Incoming high school seniors are now able to apply online for the 2021 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship administered by The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County. Applicants must be a resident of Delaware County, Ind. and attend an accredited high school in Delaware County.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in Muncie and Delaware County recognizes a student who possesses leadership potential, who is community-minded and well-rounded. The scholarship covers tuition and required fees and provides a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and equipment for four years of full-time undergraduate study leading to a bachelor’s degree at any accredited Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

Students can learn more about the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in Muncie and Delaware County and apply for this scholarship by visiting cfmdin.org/lilly. Applications must be completed by September 28, 2020. Each high school in Delaware County will nominate one student to compete in the finalist pool. Through their applications, students will demonstrate their persistence and grit. The application requires students to thoughtfully respond to six essay prompts and obtain two letters-of-recommendation from non-family adults in their lives. Test scores and class rank are no longer required to apply for this scholarship. Two finalists will be selected for Delaware County, and their names will be submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI) for the selection of the recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.

In addition to the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, The Community Foundation administers scholarships to support post-secondary education. Community-minded donors established the 51 scholarship funds and set the criteria for the awards. Scholarships are awarded to students participating in a variety of activities, with a wide range of grade-point averages, from schools across Delaware County. Awards vary by scholarship. Applications for all other scholars will be made available on January 1, 2021 at cfmdin.org/apply-for-scholarships.

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. encourages philanthropy by managing a permanent community endowment built by donations from individuals, businesses, and corporations. Using earnings on the endowment, The Foundation distributes grants to nonprofit organizations, including scholarships to support post-secondary education. Since 1985, the Foundation has awarded more than $53 million to enhance the quality of life of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.

 

ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 30 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state. The scholarships are a result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana;  to increase awareness of the beneficial roles Indiana community foundations can play in their communities; and to encourage and support the efforts of current and past Lilly Endowment Community Scholars to engage with each other and with Indiana business, governmental, educational, nonprofit and civic leaders to improve the quality of life in Indiana generally and in local communities throughout the state. Since the program began in the late 90s, Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships valued at more than $450 million have been awarded to more than 4,750 students across Indiana.
