Muncie, Ind. – The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., through the Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund, is awarding $3,400 in grants to two organizations serving the Yorktown community.
Yorktown Fire Department has been awarded $1,700 to defray the cost of designing, developing, and publishing fire safety education booklets to give to children in the Yorktown community. The project will allow the Yorktown Fire Department to collaborate with Pleasant View teachers to promote fire safety curriculum to kindergarten students.
The Town of Yorktown has been awarded $1,700 to purchase furniture for areas around the civic green. The new furniture will be used for family and friends to gather and enjoy time together. This project will allow the town to develop and continue to grow for residents and visitors.
The Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund was established in 2000 by Howard Gregory, a longtime resident and leader in the community. Howard took great pride in his community and wanted to make sure that Yorktown continued to thrive and grow long after he was gone.
In 2008 marketing and promotion efforts were relaunched for this important fund. With significant help from the Yorktown Lions Club an additional $30,000 was contributed to this fund. The Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund at The Community Foundation guarantees a steady stream of income to fund worthwhile projects in Yorktown for years to come. Applications are accepted annually on May 1.
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses, and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies. To date, more than $54 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
