Muncie, IN—Ball State University is shifting emphasis of One Ball State Day on April 7 to address the critical needs of its students, particularly as a result of the COVID19 pandemic.
The 24-hour online annual fundraising event inspires and unites Cardinals across the country.
“Last year’s event was a tremendous success with more than 4,100 gifts made by faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and students,” said Ball State President Geoffrey S. Mearns. “Their philanthropic support resulted in more than $425,000 raised for scholarships, academic programs, and student organizations.
“But this year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are shifting our fundraising efforts to focus solely on our students,” he said. “Our students need our support now more than ever. And we heard from so many of you who expressed a desire to help students at this time of great need.”
President Mearns said two areas of giving where contributions will support students with extraordinary financial need include the Jack Beyerl Student Emergency Aid and Take Flight funds.
The Jack Beyerl Student Emergency Aid fund provides financial assistance to students who experience accidents, illnesses, financial hardships, or other personal emergencies that negatively affect their ability to remain enrolled. The Take Flight Fund supports students whose ability to enroll in classes or graduate on time may be at risk due to demonstrated financial need.

One Ball State Day is also about celebration and showing school spirit. Participants can:
- Post on social media using #OneBallState and participate in the social media challenges.
- Sign up to be a One Ball State Day Ambassador. The top three ambassadors will have the opportunity to designate extra challenge dollars to the fund of their choice.
- Wear Ball State apparel to show Cardinal Pride.
