Muncie, IN Muncie Downtown Development Partnership (MDDP), Muncie’s nationally-accredited Main Street organization and the face behind DWNTWN The Original Muncie, unveiled a new campaign this week. The campaign, DWNTWN United & Ignited, is a crowdgranting campaign designed to generate $25,000 in funding to be offered in the form of grants to qualifying downtown businesses.

Local businesses need your help now. United & Ignited offers a way to contribute what you can to preserve all that you love about DWNTWN. DWNTWN has long been a hub of community pride, bringing together people from all walks of life to indulge in hospitality, fine dining, art, entertainment, shopping, and more. When we support each other, our community is united and ignited with passion and poised to achieve great things together. And now more than ever, many of our DWNTWN businesses—the people who invested, worked, and vastly improved our downtown—need support from the community.

Your donation can help: Pay business rent and/or utilities, pay to re-tool or adapt services that will allow them to function during quarantine (ex: delivery, online store or curbside service) or buy inventory or goods to resell; or pay other business expenses.

Muncie Downtown Development Partnership will use the money raised to create grants of equal amounts to be distributed to qualifying downtown businesses.

Businesses must meet the following criteria:

  • • Businesses need to be located within the boundaries of downtown: Madison to Liberty and Wysor to the railroad tracks south. (Restaurants and retail that fall within one block of boundaries will also be included.)
  • • Businesses require face-to-face/in-person contact.
  • • Businesses need to be in one of the following categories: retail, personal care, restaurants, or bars.
  • • Businesses cannot be a franchise, corporation, or not-for-profit.

While MDDP wishes to support all businesses in need, the intent of these grants is to help preserve the small businesses who create our unique downtown environment.
