Fall Workshops and Camps at Cornerstone Center for the Arts

Muncie, IN—It’s officially fall at Cornerstone Center for the Arts, the organization will host a variety of one-time workshops and camps this fall. Upcoming programs in October include If Muncie Walls Could Talk, Monthly Dance Club, Fall Break Arts Camp, Pints & Paints at The Fickle Peach, and Bad Art Night at Cornerstone. In November, Cornerstone will host Rock and Roll Summer Camp’s Autumn Workshop, Monthly Dance Club, and Byrd, Bearcats, and Bikers: Putting Indiana Sports History on the Map.

On Wednesday, October 2 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Melissa Gentry will lead If Muncie Walls Could Talk, which will use historic maps, city directories, and photographs to tell the stories/history of some of the unique buildings in Muncie, including schools, office buildings, parks, homes, and even swimming pools. Learn about the various businesses that may have occupied and some of the people who resided or worked in these seemingly ordinary structures. This presentation is free and open to the public.

Monthly Dance Club is a monthly social dance event at Cornerstone. Each event begins with an hour of dance instruction in swing, ballroom, salsa, or tango dancing led by instructor David Fennig followed by a few hours of open dancing. Upcoming Monthly Dance Club dates are Saturdays, October 5 and November 2 from 7 to 10:30 p.m. and are $12 per person or $7 for students, no pre-registration is necessary for these events.

Fall Break Arts Camp will be held Monday, October 7 through Wednesday, October 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Participating students will enjoy three days of classes in the areas of visual arts, dance, theatre, martial arts, fitness, and more! Registration fees are due in full at the time of registration and include all supplies and instruction. Students must bring a lunch for each day. Registration is $100 per child or $75 per child when registering multiple siblings.

Pints & Paints is a unique painting experience held at The Fickle Peach in Downtown Muncie. Attendees will enjoy two hours creating the featured painting at each workshop. This workshop is for ages 21 and up and includes one drink in the $25 registration fee. The next Pints & Paints will be on Thursday, October 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature a fall harvest apple painting.

Bad Art Night will be at Cornerstone on Thursday, October 10 at 6 p.m. This collaboration between Cornerstone and Muncie Public Library encourages attendees to raid through a collection of arts and crafts supplies to make their very own disasterpiece. Guests are awarded for their tacky, terrible, and creepy art with various prizes. The event is free to attend with a suggested $5 donation to help with costs.

Rock and Roll Summer Camp’s Autumn Workshop will take place on Saturdays November 2, 9, 16 & 23, and December 7 & 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the camp concluding in a concert on Sunday, December 15. Campers will spend six Saturdays learning about being a musician, music theory, song writing, concert production, promotion, presentation, music business, stage presence, instrument care, recording and producing live sound, networking, and music appreciation. The final day will be spent setting up for and performing in the finale concert. The workshop is $200 per child and is open to ages 11-17.

Byrd, Bearcats, and Bikers: Putting Indiana Sports History on the Map will be on Wednesday, November 13 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Cornerstone. This free program will feature maps created by the Bracken Library Map Collection about some of the great champions and sports stories in Indiana history, including stories related to Muncie Central’s championship basketball AND football teams, the state’s family volleyball dynasty, the world’s fastest racehorse, and legends and pioneers in sports.
