Yorktown, IN —With the creation of Civic Green, a multi-generational gathering space in downtown Yorktown, the town is seeking volunteers to serve on its new Civic Green Programming Advisory Committee.
The Civic Green Programming Advisory Committee will be in charge of planning and coordinating events on the Green, which will be ready to host community events by the summer of 2020. Members of the council will work within a given budget to bring to Yorktown unique entertainment for various age groups and interests.
Those interested can email Town Manager Pete Olson (polson@yorktownindiana.org) to express interest. Members of the Town Council, Yorktown Council for the Arts, and Yorktown Parks Department will review the applications and conduct interviews as needed. Interest in arts and/or experience in event planning are preferred. Eight to ten volunteers will be chosen to serve on the council. Volunteers are asked to serve on the council for a minimum of one year.
Many events currently hosted in Morrow’s Meadow will be moved to Civic Green, as Civic Green will provide more dependable programming space than the flood-prone Morrow’s Meadow. The new Green will feature a shade/performance structure and a sensory plaza with misters and lights, offering a versatile space that can be enjoyed by residents of all ages.
