Muncie, IN– The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie raised over $5,000 at their 3rd Annual Roy C. Buley Memorial Golf Outing held at Maplewood Golf Course on June 10, 2018. This event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous donations from 34 hole sponsors and 84 golfers. The day was called short due to a downpour of rain, but the event was able to surpass its overall goal of $5,000.
More than 84 golfers came together for food, games, and golf to support The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie’s newest initiative, the Junior Golf Program with First Tee. First Tee is a nationally recognized golf program aimed at teaching children and teens the game of golf. Jason Newman, the CEO of The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie, partnered with First Tee while working at the Boys & Girls Club in Philadelphia. “The lessons that we all learned on the golf course are ones that will stick with me.”
The Junior Golf Program will begin in July with the older students working with MD’s Golf Academy in Muncie. The younger students will have the opportunity to work with the program when school resumes in August.
“This event would not have been possible without the support of the Muncie community. I want to thank everyone who supported this outing in memory of Mr. Buley, and to help all of our members learn a game that has so much to teach. I’ve known for a while that this community is always happy to come together to help but it’s amazing to see them out here, early on a Sunday morning,” says Newman. “We’d like to give a special thanks to Texas Roadhouse for the food, Kyla Jo Photography for the pictures, and our 34 hole sponsors.”
