Muncie, IN—The Sixth Annual Red Gold Run to Crush Hunger® did just that as over 1,000 participants ran or walked during the “Crush Hunger Saturday” festivities in Elwood on October 14. The event raised a total of $56,357.48 to support local hunger relief organizations, including Second Harvest Food Bank and the Morrisett Center Food Pantry.
“We look forward to this event every year,” said Tim Kean, President and CEO. “It’s an opportunity to raise awareness and support while enjoying healthy and fun exercise with the community.” Six Second Harvest staff participated in the 5K and one-mile walk this year, and more have expressed interest in participating next year. “Wellness is an important component of the work we do, and it’s encouraging to see staff engage in this way,” said Kean.
Second Harvest would like to thank Red Gold for their ongoing support of hunger relief efforts in the community. This year’s donation of $29,928.74 will support the distribution of almost 120,000 meals to children, seniors and families in need through Tailgate and school pantry distributions as well as a broad network of member agencies.
You are invited to mark your calendars for next year’s Run to Crush Hunger on October 15, 2018. Visit www.RedGold5kRun.com to register and for more event information.
