Muncie, IN — Ball State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will perform one of Shakespeare’s most famous comedies with a 20th century twist at 7:30 p.m. February 7-8 and 11-15, and February 9 at 2:30 p.m. in University Theatre.
“Twelfth Night” tells the story of a disguised heroine, her twin brother, and passionate love interests. Ball State’s production will be set in the 1920s to show the freedoms women were fighting for, while celebrating love discovered outside the confines of heteronormative and gender binary expectations.
“While set a century ago, this production explores ideals and social norms still relevant today,” said Sarah Jenkins, managing director of the Department of Theatre and Dance. “Shakespeare’s work is always entertaining and fascinating to watch, as is the hard work of our students.”
The performance will be a culmination of 15 actors’ talent plus 37 other students who analyzed Shakespeare’s text, designed the set, led production processes, and managed rehearsals.
