Muncie, IN—The Muncie Action Plan spent 2019 working to address the issues identified by the community during the MAP3 planning process. MAP’s five task forces have focused their efforts on Linking Learning, Health, and Prosperity (TF1), Fostering Collaboration (TF2), Strengthening Muncie’s Pride and Image (TF3), Creating Attractive and Desirable Places (TF4), and Managing Community Resources (TF5). As we start a brand-new year, we would like to share our successes as we approach our Annual Community Meeting on January 28th at Muncie Central High School. This is the third of five reports from our task force leaders.

MAP continues involvement and leadership in the Bridge Dinner which occurs on the Washington Street bridge each spring and fall.  The Bridge Dinner has proven to be a great partnership, as several Muncie organizations join forces to produce this event for the enjoyment of hundreds of community family and friends.

A partnership with Burris first and second grade classes has provided artwork for display as table centerpieces. Second grade teacher Mrs. Harris shared that, “Our second-grade students at Burris loved being a part of the Bridge Dinner.  They studied Muncie landmarks and after we studied them in both classes, the students drew their own versions of Muncie landmarks.  Then Mrs. Phelps, our amazing Art teacher, put them together in a game board.  The game boards were on display on the tables.  The students loved seeing their game boards on the tables. I watched as the students found their landmarks and proudly showed their parents!  This is an amazing night, and our second-grade classes were proud to be a part of it!”

The Muncie community is privileged to have several outstanding organizations who are working diligently to encourage pride in Muncie through a variety of activities. MAP’s role has been to support their efforts by recognizing the great work they are doing in our community, such as Community Enhancement Projects, MACC, Downtown Development, By5 Little Free Libraries, Muncie Three Trails Music Series, Cardinal Greenway, and the City of Muncie’s neighborhood associations…just to name a few.

Task Force 3 will continue to support all organizations and efforts that strengthen Muncie pride and our community’s image.
