Muncie, IN— The Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance has announced that Magna Powertrain of America, an automotive parts and systems supplier, will expand its drivetrain component operation in Muncie-Delaware County, Indiana.

The Troy, Michigan-headquartered company will invest $9.3 million to add new equipment in its 200,000 square-foot manufacturing facility, MPT Muncie, located at 4701 S. Cowan Road in Muncie. The investment, which will be complete by April 2020, will support increased business.

As a result of the new investment, the company will add to their existing full time workforce of 461 employees with the creation of 50 new full time jobs at an average wage above the county average for manufacturing. Interested applicants can apply online at www.magna.com/careers or by application in the lobby of the Magna Muncie facilities.

At the request of the Economic Development Alliance and officials representing MPT Muncie, the Delaware County Council demonstrated support of the project at their public meeting today with unanimous approval of a 10-year tax abatement.

“Magna has been a proud member of the community since 2006. The project approved by the Council today is evidence of our commitment to the community and our employees. By planning to create 50 new jobs and invest $9.3 million in personal property, Magna will grow and further solidify its presence in the community,” said MPT Muncie General Manager Stephen Brand.

“Magna is a world-class global operation, and their continued investment in the Muncie facilities is encouraging news for our community. It demonstrates that their local operations, having gone through numerous expansions, are a choice location for new investment, said Jay Julian, Chief Economic Development Officer, Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Alliance. “We are grateful for their investment and we pledge our present and future assistance to help them prosper,” added Julian.
