PSI IOTA XI Awards Philanthropic Grants To Local Organizations

Muncie, IN—Psi Iota Xi Charities Inc. is pleased to announce its Philanthropic Grant Awards for 2018. These grants are funded from profits earned at The Bargain Box, 607 E. Charles Street in Muncie.  The Bargain Box is a resale shop operated and staffed by volunteer members of Psi Iota Xi Sorority. The purpose of the sorority is “the furthering of philanthropic, cultural and social enterprises” in our community.  This year’s grants totaling $18,000 were awarded to the following worthwhile organizations:

    • A Better Way — $2,250 for upgrades to the facility and furniture in the Children’s Activity Area.


    • Cornerstone Center for the Arts— $2,000 to help fund the 401 (k) scholarship program enabling more students to benefit from the positive effects of participating in the arts.


    • Masterworks Chorale— $750 for the purchase of music for the Holiday Concert.


    • Muncie Public Library— $1000 for the Ready Readers program which focuses on increasing the reading and literacy skills of participants.


    • Muncie Symphony Orchestra— $1,600 to fund the Young Artist Competition for grades 6 thru 12.


    • Project Lifesaver/Care Trak— $1,500 for the purchase of radio transmitting bracelets for the mentally impaired, autistic children and Alzheimer’s patients.


    • United Day Care Center— $4,400 for the purchase of updated classroom equipment to assist children in developing age appropriate cognitive, sensory and social/emotional skills.


    • Youth Opportunity Center— $3,000 for new bedding to help improve the overall atmosphere in the cottages and to encourage a more therapeutic environment for children removed from their families.


    • Youth Symphony Orchestra— $1500 to provide opportunities for attendance at music camp for any interested student
