January Workshops at Cornerstone Center for the Arts

Muncie, IN Cornerstone Center for the Arts will kick off the New Year with a series of one time workshops and camps in January. Upcoming workshops in January include Monthly Dance Club, Bad Art Night at Maring-Hunt Library, Pop Up Dance with Katie Cannon, Painting at The Elks lodge with Yorktown Council for the Arts, Pints & Paints at The Fickle Peach, Coffee & Paints, Pop Up Fitness with Katie Cannon, and Rock and Roll Summer Camp’s Winter Workshop.

Monthly Dance Club is a monthly social dance event at Cornerstone. Each event begins with an hour of dance instruction in swing, ballroom, salsa, or tango dancing led by instructor David Fennig followed by a few hours of open dancing.

Bad Art Night will be at Maring-Hunt Library on Thursday, January 10 at 6 p.m. This collaboration between Cornerstone and Muncie Public Library encourages attendees to raid through a collection of arts and crafts supplies to make their very own disasterpiece. Guests are awarded for their tacky, terrible, and creepy art with various prizes. The event is free to attend with a suggested $5 donation to help with costs.

Join esteemed dance instructor Katie Cannon for a Pop Up Dance workshop on Friday, January 11 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Katie will host this series of workshops on the second Friday of the month and will alternate between hip hop and contemporary/jazz styles. Participants will learn a short routine at each workshop. Registration is $10 per person per workshop.

Cornerstone has collaborated with the Yorktown Council for the Arts to host Painting at The Elks Lodge on Tuesday, January 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This workshop is open to ages 13 through adults and will feature a brightly colored beach painting to cure the winter blues. Registration is $30 per person, a portion of all proceeds will benefit the Yorktown Council for the Arts.

Pints & Paints is a unique painting experience held at The Fickle Peach in Downtown Muncie. Attendees will enjoy two hours creating the featured painting at each workshop. The workshop is for ages 21 and up and includes one drink in the $25 registration fee. The next Pints & Paints will be on Thursday, January 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The next Coffee & Paints workshop will be on Saturday, January 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and is open to students in the 4th grade through adults. Attendees who are experienced artists or are completely new to painting will enjoy creating in this relaxed atmosphere. Registration is $25 per person. January’s featured painting is a warm beach scene.

Join esteemed fitness instructor Katie Cannon for a Pop Up Fitness workshop on Saturday, January 19 from 1 to 2 p.m. Katie will host this series of workshops on the third Saturday every other month. January’s workshop will focus on Piloxing with Yoga in March, and Pilates in May. Registration is $10 per person per workshop.

Rock & Roll Summer Camp’s Winter Workshop will be held on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning January 26 and continuing through February 23 with a final concert on Sunday, February 24. Participants, ages 11 to 17, will spend five days learning about being a musician, music theory, song writing, concert production, promotion, presentation, music business, stage presence, instrument care, recording and producing live sound, networking, and music appreciation. The final day will be spent setting up for and performing in the finale concert. The workshop is $200 per child to participate.
