Muncie INA new partnership has formed between Muncie Community Schools, the YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club of Muncie. The organizations will be providing before and after school childcare services to students in the Muncie Community Schools. The operational hours of the child care services will be 6:00 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. and 2:45 to 6:00 p.m. MCS will provide transportation to and from their home schools to the childcare sites for all K-8 students that attend. The YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club will be responsible for the supervision of students during their care. The services provided will include activities such as tutoring/homework assistance, games, crafts, gymnasium and snack time. Parents will be able to enroll their students for before and after school care during registration at their child’s school.

The YMCA will provide childcare services for kindergarten to fifth grade students enrolled in Muncie Community Schools at Apple Tree Child Development Center, the Northwest YMCA Facility, and at Southside Middle School.

“YMCA Before and After School Programs support children in reaching their full potential by providing academic support and hands-on enrichment experiences in a safe and structured environment for children in grades K -5. We look forward to partnering with Muncie Community Schools and working directly with teachers to support student learning.

Together, we can better prepare our youth for the future by creating an environment where everyone has an opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.”

The Boys and Girls Club will be providing services to K-5 students at East Washington Academy and middle school students at Southside Middle School.

“For the Boys & Girls Club of Muncie, this is a strategic decision to reach more kids in more places throughout the city,” said Board President James Mitchell. “It’s a partnership that expands Club programming and gives more children access to nationally- known programs that focus on the organization’s pillars – academic success, good character and citizenship and healthy lifestyles.”

The Muncie Community Schools (MCS) serve approximately 6000 students from Muncie and the surrounding area. MCS provides a range of diverse opportunities for children as well as adult basic education.
