City of Muncie Offers Cooling Centers During High Heat

Muncie, IN—During these times of such high heat indexes, starting today (7/22) and lasting till Sunday (7/24), Mayor Tyler along with other organizations are opening up cooling centers throughout the city. City Hall’s first floor will be open along with all seven of Muncie’s fire stations to assist with citizens who may become overheated.

A citizen can come into any of these stations and cool off. If they are still feeling overheated after a time, they can be evaluated by EMS and be transported to a more long term cooling center.

 —Temperature…Highs as warm as the Low to middle 90s with Dew Point tempertures IN the middle 70s.
— Impacts…Heat Index values will approach 105 this afternoon in some areas. This will be the highest in several years in some places.
Precautionary/preparedness actions…
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids…Stay in an air-conditioned room…Stay out of the sun…and check up on relatives and neighbors.
