United Way, Ball State and IYI present “State of the Child Conference” April 20

MUNCIE, Ind.—Join the Indiana Youth Institute, an expert in child data analysis, as it presents its annual “State of the Child Conference” Wednesday, April 20 at the Ball State University’s Alumni Center.

Indiana ranks 29th in the country in child well-being measurements. “State of the Child,” a series of town-hall style discussions with communities across the state, explores what that means and why it matters.

“This is a deep dive into the latest demographics with insightful analysis about issues affecting children and their families,” said Jenni Marsh, president and CEO of Heart of Indiana United Way, which helps sponsor the event. “These are numbers that inform our actions.”

IYI researchers will present the 2022 KIDS COUNT® Data Book , and provide a more nuanced understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Indiana’s kids.

After the numbers crunch, Dr. Lee Ann Kwiatkowski, CEO and Director of Public Education for Muncie Community Schools will discuss what’s happening locally to address issues like learning loss due to COVID-19.

It is the mission of IYI to provide critical data, capacity-building resources and innovative training for people and organizations that impact the healthy development of Indiana’s children and youth.

“State of the Child” is a series of town hall discussions, led by the staff of the Indiana Youth Institute and hosted by thought leaders in communities across the state.

The event starts with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The program goes 9-10:30 a.m. at the Ball State University Alumni Center, 2800 W. Bethel Ave., Muncie. Heart of Indiana United Way and Ball State University are sponsors of the event.

The Indiana Youth Institute is a leading advocate and voice for the state’s youth worker field. They provide innovative trainings, critical data, and capacity-building resources, aiming every effort at increasing the well-being of all children. This is the fifth year IYI has come to Muncie to present its report.
