MUNCIE, Ind. The annual seasonal presentation of the Children’s Nutcracker is set for Dec. 16 -18 at Cornerstone Center for the Arts, 520 E. Main in the E. B. Ball Auditorium. On-line tickets go on sale Dec. 1 at MuncieBallet.org.

“The Children’s Nutcracker is a holiday classic and wonderful family holiday tradition,” said Lisa Love, president and CEO of the Muncie Ballet Studio. “It is classical music and dance performed by children for children.”

The Children’s Nutcracker is loosely based on the E.T.A. Hoffmann fantasy story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, about a girl who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and battles the evil Mouse King. More than 80 children, in full costume, will participate in the one-and-a-half-hour ballet.

“We are happy that the Nutcracker is again back at Cornerstone,” said Allison Bell, Cornerstone, president and CEO. “It is a wonderful event for everyone in the Muncie community to enjoy.”

Performances will be on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 16 and 17, at 7 p.m. with a matinee at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children age five and up. Tickets will be sold locally at Forever Young Boutique, 311 S. Walnut St., and Toys Forever Models & Hobbies, 300 S.Walnut St., both in Muncie.

The Muncie Ballet Studio was created in 1991 as a 501(c) (3), with a mission to promote classical dance and music. The weekly classes offered by MBS offer parents and children of all economic backgrounds assistance to have the opportunity to dance. More importantly, the classes at MBS help children develop respect, poise, manners, dedication and character all in a fun and lively environment.
