Muncie, IN – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie is honored to receive three grants totaling $85,500 to assist with programs, staffing, and general operating costs. All grants are managed through The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County.

The Clubs were awarded $60,000 directly from the Community Foundation to assist with out-of-school time programs. These funds help support programs during school breaks, after-school activities, and summer programming. An additional $3,000 was awarded earlier in the year to cover cleaning supplies related to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, the Clubs provided limited services to families of essential workers.

The Harry and Janet Kitselman Fund granted the Clubs $12,500 to help staff coordinators for the Elementary and Teen programs. “While we have some amazing high-quality, nationally tested programs, our kids come to the Club because of our staff. The Community Foundation, and the Harry and Janet Kitselman Fund understand how truly important our staff is to our work and how important it is to invest in them” Jason Newman, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie.

The Clubs were also granted $10,000 towards the general operating fund. By using grant funds to pay for general operating costs, the Clubs are able to keep the membership fee only $15 per kid. It costs $4,000 per year to provide a safe space and high-quality programs for one Club Kid.

“The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie continuously looks to provide young people in our community with a safe space and enriching opportunities,” said Kelly K. Shrock, president of The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County. “This has become even more important in the wake of the pandemic and The Community Foundation is pleased to support their efforts this year through a variety of our grantmaking programs.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie have altered services in the wake of the pandemic to help families and students in their time of need. Recently, the Clubs have expanded services to offer academic help to students enrolled in the Muncie Community School Virtual Learning Program. In addition, the Clubs provide an abundance of after-school activities to its members.
