The Muncie Symphony Orchestra Announces “Festival on the Green”

Festival on the Green will be moving indoors to the basketball courts in the Jo Ann Gora Student Recreation and Wellness Center for the concert tomorrow, June 8th. 

Picnics are still encouraged, but no alcohol can be brought into the recreation center.

The public can still bring lawn chairs. A few folding chairs will be available in the recreation center.

Public entrance – From the parking lot, there will be 2 entrances. The front entrance that faces Neeley Ave/Architecture Building and also a side door with circular drive off the parking lot. 

 

Muncie, IN – Join the Muncie Symphony Orchestra for “Festival on the Green” this Saturday, June 8th, on the lawn of the Ball State University Quad/Arts Terrace.  Family activities begin at 6 pm. with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra concert at 7 pm.

Inclement weather is expected, so this event has moved into The Jo Ann Gora Student Recreation and Wellness Center on the Ball State University campus. (See editors note above.)

An anticipated annual tradition, “Festival on the Green” is free and open to the public. The community is invited to bring picnics, chairs, blankets, etc., to enjoy the afternoon’s festivities which include a picnic contest with the “To Infinity and Beyond” festival theme, family activities, and the MSO concert at 7 pm.

“I hope Muncie will join us for one of the most accessible concerts we do in our season. We’ll take a journey up in the stars under the stars on Saturday night,” said Douglas Droste, MSO Artistic Director and Conductor.

The MSO Super Conductor Contest is currently underway! This fun competition will feature Super Conductor candidates Sarah McCord and Kathy Rapkin. To take part in deciding which candidate will be named 2019 MSO Super Conductor, vote online at munciesymphony.org, contact the MSO office or vote at the information tent at “Festival on the Green.”  Multiple votes for each candidate are acceptable and encouraged. Each vote is $1.

The Muncie Symphony will host a picnic contest prior to the concert. Entry for the picnic contest is FREE and winners will receive fabulous prizes from area businesses and organizations. This year’s theme is “To Infinity and Beyond!” 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize baskets will be awarded for the best space-themed picnics.  To enter a picnic, visit the MSO information tent at “Festival on the Green.” Picnic judging begins at 6:15 p.m.

Family activities will feature community partners including David Owsley Museum of Art, Cornerstone Center for the Arts, Muncie Civic Theatre, Muncie Public Library, Dazzle Dance, and other community organizations. Offerings will include art activities for families, face-painting, the MSO Instrument Petting Zoo and more.
