Muncie, IN—The word “wellness” can be seen marketed everywhere we look: commercials, magazines in the grocery aisle, and even food packaging. Despite the heavy marketing, wellness is more than a buzzword or trend. Wellness is an active process of making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Who doesn’t want that?  By managing our nutrition and exercise, we can achieve good wellness.

Wellness is especially important as we age because regular exercise and proper nutrition can help prevent a variety of ailments including cardiovascular disease, obesity, and fall risk behaviors. Additionally, the need for vitamins and minerals increases after age 50, so it’s ever important to have a healthy diet. That’s why LifeStream is dedicated to providing wellness resources to our community. Wellness is at the core of LifeStream’s mission: to improve the quality of life for people at risk of losing their independence.

LifeStream provides a variety of classes to help our community achieve their wellness goals including Healthy Eating Every Day, Active Living Every Day, and Enhance Fitness. These classes are designed to help incorporate healthy eating and fitness into your daily routine. One participant shared, “I am happy with the changes I have made and can see myself sticking with this. This is not a diet, but a lifestyle change.”

Whether you are 20 or 80, wellness is important and we encourage you to get active this summer. Assess your personal wellness goals and get started today; it is never too late! By recognizing that healthy lifestyle choices promote healthy aging, we all can live longer, more independent lives.
