MARION & MUNCIE, INDIANA — Calling all cyclists: The annual Cardinal Ride welcomes cyclists of all ages and abilities to ride the Cardinal Greenway in both Marion and Muncie, Indiana, featuring a range of routes, including family-friendly routes and advanced routes up to 100 miles.

Cardinal Ride is the second event in the Cardinal Greenways 2022 Summer Series, which encourages people to explore Indiana’s largest rail-trail.

“The Summer Series is a fun way to encourage our community to get out and enjoy this amazing amenity right in their backyards,” said Angie Pool, CEO of Cardinal Greenways. “Our events this summer are opportunities for families, friends—everyone—to move their bodies, step away from their daily lives, and appreciate nature around them.”

Cardinal Ride will include concurrent events in both Marion and Muncie on Saturday, July 30. The Marion event will feature a family-friendly route, though advanced riders may choose to cycle farther as desired. Participants at the Muncie event will have the opportunity to choose from multiple routes and distances, including one route up to 100 miles.

“Our 100-mile route attracts cyclists from all over the state and surrounding areas,” Pool said. “What makes that route especially unique is that it’s 100 miles all on a trail—no open-road cycling with cars passing beside you—so it’s a much safer and more peaceful ride than many other long-distance routes.”

Registration for the event includes a free T-shirt and refreshments. Cyclists who complete the 100-mile route will also earn a special award.

The next event in the 2022 Summer Series will be the Cardinal Walk, featuring 5K and 10K walking routes in Marion and Muncie on Saturday, Sept. 10. Later this year, Cardinal Greenways will also be hosting its annual BikeTOURberfest in October and Turkey Trot in November.

Cardinal Greenways exists to enhance quality of life by developing and operating facilities and trails to actively connect people and communities. To learn more, visit cardinalgreenways.org.
