Muncie, IN– When business and academia converge, it’s good news for students, employers, and the greater community. East Central Indiana received some good news of its own when Muncie-based Ontario Systems and neighboring Anderson University introduced “The Cube,” an on-campus tech talent incubator designed to prepare students at the School of Science and Engineering for future careers.

“We are genuinely excited about this partnership with Anderson University,” said Jason Harrington, President of Ontario Systems. “This is a great opportunity to help students develop their technical and professional skills, strengthen our talent pipeline as we grow, and make a positive impact on our industry and economy.”

Enhancing Students’ Prospects and the Future of Tech

The Cube officially launched on January 23 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was open to university faculty, staff, and students as well as the general public. Speaking on behalf of Anderson University were Dr. John S. Pistole, President; Dr. Marie S. Morris, Provost; and Dr. Jennifer Coy, Chair, Department of Computer Science and Professor of Computer Science and Physics.

Also attending were representatives of Ontario Systems including Jason Harrington, President; Darla Brown, Director, Talent Acquisition; Jeff Spires, Director, Software Engineering; Bob Mattax, Manager, Software Engineering; Jenny Johnson, HR Generalist; Troy Sanders, Facilities Specialist; Stephen Hunter, Sr. Technical Project Manager; and Joani Scott, Director, Corporate Services.

As Dr. Pistole and others made clear in their remarks, The Cube will offer students a chance to use knowledge they’ve acquired in class to solve real-world problems. It will also give them a feel for life in the workforce, where leadership, professionalism, and teamwork skills are essential for long-term career growth.

“Anderson University believes in the importance of collaboration and real-life professional experiences for our students,” Dr. Coy says. “Our students tell us that the exposure to new technology, challenges, and team lessons are critical to them both during their time with us and as they transition into their professional life after graduation.”

Giving Interns a Solid Return on the Time They Invest

A tech industry pioneer since 1980, Ontario Systems provides revenue cycle management software to corporate, government, and healthcare clients across the U.S. including five of the 15 largest hospital networks. The company is one of the most sought-after employers in the state, having been recognized as a “Best Place to Work” for four years running.

Thanks to Ontario Systems’ partnership with Anderson University, students will work side by side with Ontario Systems experts at The Cube and have the opportunity to obtain paid internships and/or part-time and full-time jobs with Ontario Systems while they pursue a degree.

“Our students can learn valuable skills as interns with Ontario Systems professionals right on AU’s campus, both during the academic year and summer,” says Dr. John S. Pistole, Anderson University President. “This partnership enhances their education and builds their resumes for when they graduate.”

For students interested in paid internships, Ontario Systems’ onsite internship program offers collaborative innovation and problem solving, seasoned mentors, and personal development sessions. Interns also get four hours of paid volunteer time off to give back to the community.

“Our culture is built to empower and fully develop the individual, both personally and professionally,” says Darla Brown, Director, Talent Acquisition at Ontario Systems. “We’re excited about helping AU students prepare for life after graduation—and hopefully a long, rewarding future with us.”
