July 23rd 2016.

That was the day that planning for the 165th edition of the Delaware County Fair began. July 12th thru the 22nd are the dates for the fair this year and will be the result of much work from what I am pleased to call the “hardest working volunteer board in Delaware County!”

I am constantly amazed at the passion and commitment demonstrated by these people to deliver the best fair around. Your basic fairgoer I’m sure thinks that everything just happens year-after-year and cannot fathom the amount of planning that is needed to deliver the “new tradition of fun!”

From reviewing entertainment packets for acts for the south stage that will entertain, impress, amaze, and at the same time stay within the tight budget guidelines. Then there are the nightly events for the grandstands to book. The committee evaluates what was a crowd favorite and how can they improve the lineup each year. Trust me, once again, both groups have delivered!

There will be the traditional favorites of demolition derby, truck and tractor pull, and the crowd favorite the rodeo. Once again will have the cheerleading competition and new this year the all-star racing will be on Friday night as a stand alone event. Your fair board also has taken into account everyone’s taste buds and will not disappoint even the most finicky food critics! Bar-b-que, lemon shake –ups, pork chops, elephant ears, and yes everything else “fried!”

New this year will be the first hot dog eating contest! Space does not allow me to mention everything so you will just have to see for yourself. Know that this longstanding event has been successful because of the hard work from your fair board. This board is filled with the type of people that make this county so great. People that are doers, people that will deliver on what they say. People that want to make this place better! The best way to thank them for their work……tell them so in person at your Delaware County Fair!
