MITS Celebrates 35th Year of Operation on July 15th

Muncie, IN—On July 15th, Muncie Indiana Transit System will celebrate their 35th year of operation in Muncie.  MITS has been nationally recognized in the past and continues to be one of the nation’s top transportation company operating and annually transports over 1.9 million riders.  MITSPlus is Muncie’s transportation provider for individuals with accessibility issues.   MITS employs over 80 individuals and has 14 routes that run Monday through Saturday. The daily goals of MITS is to provide to the citizens of Muncie a safe, secure and timely transportation option.

To help celebrate the 35th anniversary, a birthday party will be held at the TJ Ault downtown transfer station.  Riders are invited to stop by and take advantage of the free wellness examinations provided by Open Door Health Services.  Free pedometers will be given out to adults and children will receive a fun prize for attending.  Muncie’s most tenured and popular announcer Steve Brown of WERK will be hosting his morning show from the transfer station on Friday. Free snow cones will be available as well for all riders that day.   Special free ridership coupons will be distributed by social media outlets, the Mitsbus.org website and the StarPress. In addition, Qstraint, one of the sponsors of the event, will be demonstrating the latest in rider accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Edible Muncie will also be on site distributing information about their organization.
